GRANTS - On Friday, May 2 the Pirates were on the road as they were set to face the 5A Farmington Scorpions in their last regular season game.

The No. 2 Pirates took care of business, 10-1, against the Scorpions with pitchers Estevan Barela and Niko Young forming a big part of the success for the Pirates. Barela pitched five total innings, allowing only two hits and one earned run with six strikeouts. Young pitched the final inning, allowing one hit while striking out three batters.

The Pirates are in a very good situation as they stand No. 1 in District 5-4A district heading into the State playoffs; the District Championship was the team’s second in a row.

The Pirates picked up the number two seed going into the 2024 Nusenda Credit Union State Baseball Championships. The No. 2 Pirates will face the No.15 seed Portales Rams on Friday, May 10 and Saturday, May 11. The Rams are 12-11 on the season and also 3-6 in District play and are currently on a three-game winning streak. The Pirates have so far not played the Rams this season.
