Grants' Knight Long celebrates, after his 99-yard kick return for a touchdown

The Grants Pirates football team is on the road this week, taking on the Moriarty Pintos.

The Pirates are back in action this week after a loss to the No. 1 Bloomfield Bobcats (3-0) 60-7. The game started off tough for the Pirates after the Bobcats got on the board early with a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. The Pirates managed to score and get on the board with a 99-yard kick return from Knight Long late before the half. But the Bobcats scored four extra touchdowns to keep the lead 41-7 at the half. Both teams did not do much in the early second half because the defenses were competing. The Bobcats eventually took the win over the Pirates (1-2) 60-7.

The Pirates are looking for redemption on Friday taking on the 3-0 Pintos this week, who are on a hot streak after a big win over the Newcomb Skyhawks(0-2) last week.

The Pintos have beaten three teams so far, including Gallup (0-3), Academy (2-1), and Newcomb.  Even though the Pintos have an undefeated record, by comparison, the Pirates have beaten Gallup (0-3) 56-0 during Grants’ homecoming game. But last year the Pirates lost to Albuquerque Academy (2-1).

The Pirates are looking forward to a good fight this week and also looking to get this win. We will bring you back the final score and stats on Monday.
