Izaiah Ortega scored a touchdown at Hope Christian

The Grants Pirates  (3-3) got a huge win over the Kirtland Central (2-3) this past weekend. 

The Pirates traveled to the Four Corners to take on Kirtland Central and this was a hard fought win for the Pirates. This game started off fast with the Pirates scoring three touchdowns in the first quarter. But the Broncos came back with two touchdowns of their own to make the score 21-14 in the first quarter. In the second quarter, both teams came with a pair of touchdowns to make the score 34-27 at the half. After the half the Pirates came out strong with another pair of touchdowns to make the score 47-27, but Kirtland Central managed to make a touchdown before the third quarter ended, which made the score 47-34. In the final quarter both teams slowed down and just made one touchdown apiece to make the final score 54-42 and the Grants Pirates took the win.  

Grants QB DJ Chavez threw for 186 yards with a quarterback rating of 133.1. Andres Lazos had 19 carries for 343 yards (18 yards per carry), which is a career high for the junior, and he added four touchdowns. 

The Pirates are on a roll with a two-game winning streak and a record of 3-3. On the other hand the Pirates are on a bye week this week and will play next week on the road against Taos. 

Taos is 2-3 on the year and the Tigers have beaten Rio Grande (0-5), and Gallup (0-5); neither teams have won a game this year.
