GHS senior Manuel Gonzales takes off!

Last Friday the Pirates traveled to Valencia to take on the Jaguars in a big District game and came home with a big win.

The Pirates played a very hard-fought game and it paid off. This game started off quick with the Pirates getting on the board first with a Julian Padilla touchdown run. Then, Padilla came back with another touchdown run. But the Jaguars came back with their own touchdown to make the score 14-7 in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, before the half, Joe Clawson scored another touchdown run for the Pirates to make the score 21-7 before the half, while the Pirates' defense held the Jaguars scoreless in the second.

In the second half, both teams' defenses played their hardest with the Pirates and Jaguars only scoring a touchdown each in the 3rd and 4th quarters to end the game, with the Pirates winning their first District game, 35-21.

The Pirates are now 1-1 in District play, and taking on their arch rivals St. Pius tonight, 7 p.m. at home. If the Pirates beat St. Pius this week they will advance to 2-1 in their District and may also clinch a playoff spot.
